Longtime Seattle Chinese Restaurant And Banquet Hall Will Close

Longtime Seattle Chinese Restaurant and Banquet Hall Will Close

A Beloved Institution Says Farewell

After 42 years of serving the Seattle community, Tai Tung Restaurant and Banquet Hall will close its doors on February 28, 2023. The beloved institution, known for its authentic Cantonese cuisine and spacious banquet hall, has been a cherished gathering place for countless celebrations and family dinners.

A Changing Landscape

The closure of Tai Tung marks a significant loss for Seattle's Chinatown-International District (CID). Over the past few years, the neighborhood has undergone rapid gentrification, leading to rising rents and the displacement of many small businesses. Tai Tung, a cornerstone of the CID, has been unable to withstand these economic pressures.

A Legacy of Community

Tai Tung has been an integral part of the Seattle community for decades. Its banquet hall has hosted countless weddings, birthdays, and other special occasions. The restaurant's menu, featuring classic Cantonese dishes like dim sum, roast duck, and seafood, has delighted generations of diners.

A Fond Farewell

The owners of Tai Tung, the Wong family, expressed their gratitude to the Seattle community for their support over the years. In a statement, they said, "It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Tai Tung. We have cherished the memories we have made here and the relationships we have built with our customers and staff.

Preserving the Legacy

While Tai Tung may be closing its physical doors, its legacy will continue to live on. The Wong family plans to donate the restaurant's extensive collection of Cantonese artifacts and memorabilia to the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience.
